F4 is an unrivalled professional development opportunity for Australia’s emerging documentary filmmaking talent. Filmmakers at the start of their careers are selected to participate in a screening program alongside documentary masters attending the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC). During the conference they are guided through a bespoke series of workshops and meetings with relevant industry professionals to help bridge the gap between making their first film and entering the marketplace.

But don’t just take it from us. Hear it straight from the F4 2010 selected First Filmmakers:

UMOJA: WHERE WOMEN RUN WILD

AIDC and F4 was an incredible learning experience for me, opening up a whole new international world of documentary filmmaking. I met inspiring filmmakers and mentors with whom I've since begun creative partnerships with and all my project's have consequently progressed. I had some invaluable face-to-face meetings with broadcasters and distributors and now have a greater understanding of the market. I wholeheartedly encourage emerging filmmakers to participate in the F4 program and look forward to returning to AIDC.  Director and F4 Award winner Elizabeth Tadic

DRIVE

F4 was a great opportunity for us to attend the AIDC as a result of our film being selected. We were able to meet with a number of different aspects of the documentary industry both nationally and internationally and that was really beneficial professionally.  Co-Director Bronwyn Purvis

Being selected into F4 made such a difference for us at AIDC 2010 as emerging filmmakers, compared to a daunting experience the year before. The generous support that was offered to us and the others in our competition gave us the feel for how to approach these busy marketplaces in the future, strategically and confidently.  DRIVE Co-Director Telen Rodwell

DRIVE festival screenings since F4: Sydney Film Festival; Melbourne International Film Festival; Junction Festival Tasmania.

NIGHT FARE

The F4 festival was an invaluable way to connect with other talented filmmakers and get a first-hand glimpse into the documentary industry's practices and processes. It was a whirlwind experience and an amazing opportunity to meet decision makers. The F4 festival has been a great boost to my profile with peers.  Director William Head

MY HOME THE BLOCK

F4 is a great opportunity to meet some really helpful mentors who openly shared their insights and experience with us.  Director Trevor Almeida

THE RISE OF LEATHERMAN

F4 was great because it helped to bridge the gap between being an emerging filmmaker and the professional world, getting a glimpse into the workings of the documentary industry. It was also great to meet other documentary film-makers and talk about each others' projects.  Director Kim Munro

THE RISE OF LEATHERMAN festival screenings since F4: The Human Rights Arts and Film Festival; Melbourne Queer Film Festival.
